North
Sacramento at High Risk for West Nile Virus
Spectrum
Staff
Concern
continues to grow in areas of North Sacramento where mosquito and
West Nile virus activity has intensified recently with the finding
of many positive mosquito samples, announced the Sacramento-Yolo
Mosquito and Vector Control District.
The communities of highest risk include Citrus Heights, Antelope, North Highlands
and Orangevale.
“Since the beginning of the mosquito season, these areas have seen a steady
amplification of the virus,” said David Brown, district manager. “Residents
need to take this warning seriously because the risk of West Nile virus is very
high,” said Brown.
As a response to the virus activity found in these areas, the District will proceed
with its mosquito management plan to protect public health and welfare which
includes ground fogging and truck-mounted spraying in parks and neighborhoods
where intervention is needed.
Extensive mosquito trapping and monitoring will also continue in order to monitor
the spread of the disease and evaluate further necessary actions.
The District urges residents to be vigilant and continue protecting themselves
with an effective mosquito repellent during times of peak mosquito activity.
“It just takes one mosquito bite to change your life. Please be aware that
West Nile virus can affect anyone,” said Brown.
